1. Firstly, electricity was restored fully to the university yesterday.
You recalled, YEDC forcefully put the university on band A around October last
year with a tariff of over 62m naira for just one month. The university could
not pay this money at that time because the VC inherited almost an empty
treasury. However, the VC through his skills continue to negotiate with YEDC
and now power was restored.
Secondly, that experience of blackout as a result of YEDC cutting the
university, the VC continues search for alternatives yielded 5mw of solar
powered electricity. Is a World Bank project, right now installation ongoing in
the university and it will be commission by March-April this year, Inshallah.
Thirdly, there is special Intervention from Federal Ministry of Education
supplying ICT Equipment worth over 258m Naira to the university.
Fourthly, another special Intervention from the TETFUND worth over 800m
Naira to the University. This special Intervention is for Laboratory equipment
and ICT gadgets. These equipment and ICT gadgets had already been supplied to
the university. Optical Fibres for improve internet access and and research
development.
Fifthly, there is TETFUND Zonal intervention secured by Prof. Ibrahim
Umar to the University. This Zonal intervention is on office furnitures and
other facilities. It is worth over 500m Naira. These furnitures are already in
the university.
Sixthly, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) also donated ICT
Equipment to the university. The ICT Equipment will enhance Internet
connectivity of the university and boost Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
Staff can now communicate freely within the campus through that VOIP phones
when installed.
We are in the age of information technology, the VC is driven by the
desire to make the university first class ICT compliant to boost research and
development.
It may interest the public and the university community to note, the VC
promised to pay all outstanding promotion arrears for all staff, both academic
and non-academic. He will pay all these outstanding arrears from the internally
generated revenue of the university. These arrears runs from 2017 to date.
Prof. Ibrahim Umar stands for welfare of staff and he make it a priority.
Staff promotion is now prompt and timely. God is merciful by bringing Prof.
Ibrahim Umar as our Vice Chancellor at this material time in the history of the
university. I called him a rescuer and liberator. We are now liberated people,
we feel the fresh air of conducive academic atmosphere.
